![]() Koalas live in Eucalypt Forests. Eucalypts are also known as gum trees. |
Their scientific name is Phascolarctos Cinereus. A man by the name of John Price was the first European to record Koalas. He was on a journey into the Blur Mountains near Sydney, Australia in 1798. Their scientific name means 'ash grey pouched bear.' They created this name in 1816. By 1924, Koalas were extinct in Southern Australia. This was happening because people were cuttin gdown Eucalypt Trees in their forests'. To this day, people are still cutting down the trees because they caused fevers, coughs, asthma, and joint pain. The trees were planted to prevent malaria but that didn't work. Applying Eucalypt to the skin can cause a really bad rash. |
