ENGLISH BULLDOG
THEY WERE BRED TO FIGHT BULLS. Bull baiting was a common blood sport in the United Kingdom from 1206 up until its inevitable banning in 1835.
Because of their big heads and tiny backsides, bulldogs have trouble maneuvering in the water. Although some can swim, it’s best to keep an eye on them in case they slip under. Calvin Coolidge had one named Boston Beans and Warren Harding had one named Oh Boy. The birthing process is difficult due to the breed’s big heads and small birthing canals.Since natural birth could cause injury or death, bulldogs are born through C-section. Lace makers in England were drawn to the toy version of the dog and would suse the smaller pups as lap warmers while they worked.
