coralAround the tropical region along the equator there can be found animals called coral, now it is often thought coral are plants but that is untrue, the branches that we often call "coral" are actually made of thousand little tiny animals called polyps, there is thought there is atleast 7 species of coral. there is also areas called "coral reefs" which are large areas of coral which are special for our oceans health. coral reefs provide food and shelter for the fish. and help prevent erosion in the water. lionfishin the indo-pacific there lies a territorial species of fish named lionfish or its scientific name the Pterois. it is a beutiful species being lined with red and white stripes with pointy fins that contain decent amounts of venom. they are commingly known for being a big problem among trying to save the coral trench as they kill fish and animals that try to protect it. and because they're in the indo-pacific there are not many predators in the water that can successfully kill these fish along with their poisonous fins. which is why some divers when given a chance kill these species to eat them. but they spread quickly which is another problem. the lionfish is a indeed a beautiful but destructive species. find more interesting imformation at oceanservice.noaa.gov |
